The San Juan River – October 25th - 30th, 2024
The San Juan River is world-renowned for providing some of the most rewarding trout fishing you will ever experience. The San Juan is a consistent producer of rainbows and browns averaging 16 to 18 inches with many reaching much larger proportions. The Quality Waters are in northwest New Mexico below the Navajo Dam and Reservoir. We will be staying in VRBO rental houses located near the river, which are fully equipped with kitchens, and multiple bedrooms and baths. We usually grill Tri-tips the first night, and Italian, Mexican, or something else the other nights. You will be assigned to a meal team that will provide the food, prepare it, and clean up one night for everyone. You are responsible for your breakfast and lunch.
The price range of the accommodations per fisher is typically $350 to $450 for the five nights depending on the final number of participants. The trip is limited to 12 people.
Please reach out to the trip organizer for current availability for this trip.

CTU Stream Girls
STREAM Girls is an outdoor watershed experience that employs STEM-education (science, technology, engineering, math) plus recreation and arts to explore a local stream. By visiting a local stream and having the opportunity to observe it as scientists, anglers, and artists, Girl Scouts in the 4th through 8th grade (juniors and cadets) will get the complete picture of what their stream could mean to them.
STREAM Girls 1.0 - July 20, 2024
This full-day program intended for girls from 4th – 8th grades, empowers girls to explore a local stream, collect flow data, sample macroinvertebrates, tie flies, and learn fly casting. Sign up as an individual or a whole troop and if you aren't a Girl Scout no worries -- you can join in the fun too. Please note STREAM Girls 1.0 does not include fly fishing due to our limited time, that comes in STREAM Girls 2.0.
Where: Kassler Center @ Waterton Canyon, 7:30AM - 5:30PM
Volunteers Needed for Hydrology, Fly Tying, Casting and Photos
STREAM Girls 2.0 - July 21, 2024
This half-day program intended for girl’s 4th grade or older, empowers novice anglers to build upon their already learned casting skills and grow into confident anglers and river conservationists. It is highly recommended that you have already taken STREAM Girls 1.0 before enrolling in this event. Girls are welcome to retake STREAM Girls 2.0 as often as they would like!
Where: Lake Lehow, 10:15AM - 2:00PM

Come Fish With Us - Moving Waters Weekday (Blue River)
Blue River
We have added a weekday trip for those folks who can’t make the weekend Moving Waters trips hosted by Harlan!
This month’s Moving Waters trip is to the Blue River. The Silverthorne stretch of the Blue is a pocket water paradise. Anglers can leave their “A River Run’s Through It” casts at home and instead focus on short and tactical casts. Anglers can expect to find Rainbow, Brown and Brook trout along this stretch with the highest concentration of trophy Rainbows being located below the dam. With the exception of Mysis Shrimp, the fly selection for the Blue is relatively consistent with the other popular Colorado tail waters. Size 18 – 24 Midge and Baetis nymphs produce year round.
Meet at 7:45AM at the T-Rex Park-n-Ride near I-70 and C-470, the Morrison exit. Please contact Mark for the parking lot specifics as there are a few options at T-Rex. Here’s the address for mapping purposes: 18425 U.S. 40, Golden, CO 80401.

Others will fish in wadable areas of the river. We have new accommodations for 2024! Bighorn Angler’s upper level of the View House has ten beds in five bedrooms, three bathrooms, and a full kitchen to cook your meals. We do not organize meal teams on this trip, and you are responsible for all your meals.

Carpools are organized to help lower transportation costs. The driver typically does not pay for fuel as there is wear and tear on the vehicle, so the fuel is paid for by the other occupant(s).
The Green River – April 22nd – 26th, 2024
We fish the ‘A’ section of the Green River below Flaming Gorge Reservoir in Utah. The trip is scheduled in April to match with the Mayfly hatch. The canyon walls and the greenish color of the river provide a spectacular backdrop to your fishing experience. Beautiful large Rainbows and Browns are numerous. Some fishers will use guides or personal watercraft to float the seven miles from the dam to the Little Hole take-out while others will wade fish up the canyon from Little Hole.
We stay at Flaming Gorge Resort which sleeps six in four bedrooms and a kitchen to cook our meals. Three recently updated motel rooms with two fishers each are also used to accommodate the twelve people. We usually grill Tri-tips the first night, and Italian, Mexican, or something else the other nights. You will be assigned to a meal team that will provide the food, prepare it, and clean up one night for everyone. You are responsible for your breakfast and lunch.
The price range of the accommodations per fisher is typically $300 to $400 for the four nights depending on the final number of participants. The trip is limited to 12 people.
Please reach out to the trip organizer for current availability for this trip.

Come Fish With Us - Moving Waters (TBD)
Arkansas River
This month’s Moving Waters Trip is to the legendary Arkansas River.
The Arkansas River offers fishing opportunities for every type of angler -- from the river bank or from a boat. The Arkansas Headwaters Recreation Area (AHRA) provides sites with access to some of the best "Gold Medal" fishing along with picnic tables, grills and views of the river and mountains. Refer to the AHRA Area Map for fishing access points. As the river makes its 152-mile journey from the headwaters of the Arkansas to Lake Pueblo, it can be a placid stream or a roaring river. Fishing will be better in the river’s calmer areas, but even if the river appears calm in spots, it has strong currents and care must be taken when wading.
The trout population in the Arkansas is 90 percent self-reproducing brown trout and 10 percent Colorado River rainbows, which are introduced as fingerlings. Expect about 2,000 fish per mile on the average. The fishing is best when the flows are lower and the water is clear.
Details:
Meet at 7:45AM at the Park-n-Ride at C-470 and University Boulevard, the SW quadrant, specifically. Here’s the address: 8392 S Burnley Ct., Highlands Ranch, CO 80126.

Come Fish With Us - Moving Waters Weekday (Location, TBD)
new weekday trips this year!
We have added a weekday trip for those folks who can’t make the weekend Moving Waters trips hosted by Harlan. Initially, we will try to mirror the weekend destinations and then we will begin to branch out based on suggestions from the group.
One thing to note regarding snowpack: all drainages have above average snowpack numbers this year except the Arkansas which is below average. With spring run-off, we’ll play it by ear. We may find ourselves with rivers blown out except the Arkansas, and in this case we may choose to go to the Arkansas.
If you want to mark the future dates on your calendar, here are the tentative dates for next few (all Thursdays):
• June 8*
• July 27
• August 24
• September 28
• October TBD
* - Run-off may be happening around this time, so we’ll adjust as necessary depending on conditions.
Questions? Contact Mark Davis at (303) 941-0393 or mdavissci22@gmail.com.

Again, we’ll play this decision on the destination by ear as we see how run-off unfolds.

(I may have a conflict with a trip later in the season, so I’m looking for someone who would be willing to co-pilot a trip in my stead. If you are willing, please contact me.)
