CCTU May | Monthly Speaker Gathering

  • Lone Tree Brewing Company 8200 Park Meadows Drive Lone Tree, CO, 80124 United States (map)

This month’s speaker is Justin Purdy!

Raised in Colorado’s rugged beauty, Justin Purdy discovered fly fishing in 2009 during a backpacking trip in the Gunnison Valley—and he’s been hooked ever since. Whether navigating mountain trails in his trusty Tacoma, exploring alpine lakes, or floating rivers, he finds both adventure and peace in the outdoors. Now a father of two, his greatest joy is passing that passion on to his daughters. Combining his background in marketing and design with a deep connection to Colorado’s waters, Justin aims to inspire others to experience the same sense of adventure, connection, and purpose he finds every time he steps into a river. He believes the best lessons in life happen outside, where patience, resilience, and respect for nature are earned, and that every cast is an opportunity to slow down and take in the moment. He is thankful for his role within Orvis as the Park Meadows Fishing Manager, where he can bring all these skills together and help new and seasoned anglers alike.

This month’s Fly Tying Demo is being lead by Mike Williams! His demo will include: soft hackles and intruder flies for trout spey.

With more than 30 years at the vise, Mike brings a unique blend of scientific insight and practical experience to fly tying. Mike focuses on the use of dubbing loops to create lifelike movement and durable bodies. Mike likes to work on adapting tried and true patters to modern jig-style flies that maximize performance in a variety of water conditions. Mike is a major advocate for the versatility of CDC feathers; any soft-hackle nymph and even streamers are amplified by the addition of CDC.

The fly tying demonstration will begin at 6:00PM. You’re sure to learn something by coming to the meeting early!
