TUESDAY, AUGUST 17, 5PM
REYNOLDS LANDING park– 6745 S. Santa Fe Drive, Littleton, Co 80120
Join us at the Annual Picnic on August 17th at Reynolds Landing on the South Platte River. A limited number of volunteers needed starting at 4pm, picnic activities officially starts at 5 pm.
Dinner and drinks will be available from The Denver Taco Truck. Check out their menu http://www.denvertacotruck.com/index.html. You can bring and consume your own alcoholic beverages – but we must jump through a couple of hoops to satisfy local liquor laws. Officially, you can donated beverages to CCTU and then buy the beverages from CCTU. In practice, bring your beverages and then please make a small (it can be very tiny) donation to CCTU – and consider your beverage donated and bought back. Please also bring folding chairs as there may not be enough room at the picnic tables.
Special Group Activity (5pm Start) - Streamside Fly Fishing Seminar on Entomology & Matching the Hatch
Ascent Fly Fishing (@ascentflyfishing) founder, Aquatic Biologist and CCTU chapter member Peter Stitcher will conduct a condensed version of his Streamside Fly Fishing Seminar on Entomology & Matching the Hatch. Peter will conduct a quick bankside review a trout’s aquatic and terrestrial foods, their life cycles and defining characteristics, and fly patterns that match them. He will then lead the group in sampling invertebrates in the South Platte River located at the park and help identify the best fly matches in your fly box.
Peter will also offer for sale the Ascent Fly Fishing Fly Fishing Entomology kit which includes…Nylon Match the Hatch Belt Pouch, Seine net, Sample Vial Kit, Magnifier & Hook Size Key, Stream Thermometer, Invertebrate Tweezers, and more.
If you want to participate you will need to get wet…likely a good thing given the potential August heat. You can wet wade or bring our waders…your choice.
Fishing is close by, right on the South Platte River…so feel free to bring your rod.
The Park closes at sundown…so you are welcome to stay and fish or visit as long as the light permits.
Reynolds’s Landing Location - Reynolds Landing address is located off Santa Fe, just a little north of Aspen Grove. Quick directions are (from C470) north on Santa Fe, proceed past Aspen Grove, turn left (west) on Brewery Lane, proceed past Breckenridge Brewery, road dead ends at the park.
NOTE – Given there was no Raffle Program this year we will not be announcing any Raffle program winners as has been done in the past.
