Saturday, April 28, 2018 – Spring Bear Creek Conservation Project and Fishing Contest
Join the Cutthroat Chapter Saturday April 28, 2017 on urban Bear Creek to celebrate Earth Day in cooperation with the City of Lakewood. After a lite provided breakfast we will help restore a nearby riparian area by planting willows, cottonwoods, and other native plants. After a provided lunch we will return to the stream for a low key three hour fishing contest with acknowledgements for angling achievements such as most fish caught and most flies lost. The data gained from the contest will help Colorado Parks and Wildlife in their hope to restore the brown trout fishery that historically resided in those waters.
Saturday, September 15, 2018 – Clear Creek Clean-up
This year our multi Chapter Stream Clean Up Project will be held at the Harold A. Anderson and adjacent Waterwheel Parks in Idaho Springs (same location as last year…behind the Idaho Springs City Hall at 1711 Miner St.). We will be teamed with volunteers from Cherry Creek Anglers and West Denver Chapters. We plan to work cleaning up the stream from Highway 119 in the East to Dumont on the West. We are in need of 30 to 50 volunteers (last year we had 43!!!) to help make this project a success. Please bring waders and work gloves. Garbage bags and safety vests will be provided.
PROJECT RECAP
Saturday, October 6, 2018 – South Platte River Cleanup Hosted by CTU, CUSP and USFS
To celebrate the Wild and Scenic Rivers Act turning 50 years old, Colorado Trout Unlimited (CTU), Coalition for the Upper South Platte (CUSP) and the U.S. Forest Service (USFS) are organizing a cleanup day on the South Platte River near Deckers, CO on October 6th, 2018 from 9am to 3pm. Volunteers will meet at the Deckers Store and help pickup trash along the river corridor.
Saturday, October 13, 20, 27 & November 3, 2018 – Refurbish Deckers Area Angler Access Step Project
In January 2018 the Cutthroat Chapter Board authorized a donation to partially fund construction of angler access steps on the South Platte River near Deckers. These steps will stabilize the heavily eroding river banks and protect the river from siltation damage. We are asking for CCTU members to volunteer to help CUSP install these rock steps and re-vegetate the disturbed areas. Work days are planned to be October 13, 20, 27, and November 3, 2018.
